What You'll Do

Facility Maintenance & Support

Provide light maintenance and operational support to university departments and campus customers.
Perform routine maintenance tasks, including:
- Replacing light bulbs.
- Opening drain lines.
- Checking power panels for basic on/off operations.
- Inspecting electrical outlets for visible damage.
Identify issues that exceed the scope of the position and report them to the appropriate supervisor or skilled trades professional.

Carpentry & Repair Assistance

Complete basic carpentry-related repairs and adjustments, including:
- Replacing window shades and drapes.
- Installing acoustical ceiling tiles.
- Installing traffic signs.
- Installing furniture bumpers.
- Adjusting closet doors.

Furniture & Equipment Support

Assemble furniture, equipment, and materials as needed.
Assist with moving, setup, delivery, and installation activities throughout campus.

Transportation & Delivery Services

Operate a light truck or van to transport furniture, supplies, equipment, and personnel.
Support departmental logistics and campus relocation needs.

Custodial & Floor Care Support

Perform housekeeping duties when required.
Operate floor care equipment to strip, scrub, wax, and refinish floors and baseboards.
Clean windows, door frames, walls, and other assigned areas.
Maintain cleanliness and appearance standards across facilities.

Teamwork & Service Excellence

Work collaboratively with Facilities Management staff and campus partners.
Demonstrate a customer-focused approach while supporting Duke's commitment to service excellence.
Promote a safe working environment by following established safety procedures and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires the ability to understand and follow instructions generally acquired through a partial high school education.

Experience

No experience required.

OR

An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
